(VOV News) (26/8/2010)

219 students in the southcentral region who study well and get high marks for natural science and literature were awarded Odon Vallet scholarships in Da Nang City on August 26.

The scholarship fund was established by Prof. Odon Vallet through the “Meeting Vietnam” organisation founded by Prof. Tran Thanh Van.

Prof. Vallet personally granted scholarships to students in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Da Nang City.

The scholarships, worth a total of VND1.1 billion, were given to 34 students from Da Nang and Quy Nhon Universities (VND7.5 million per student) and 185 students from high-schools, secondary schools, and ethnic boarding schools (VND5 million per student).

This is the 8th time Vallet scholarships have been granted to students in the central region.

Prof. Odon Vallet is from France’s Sorbonne University. He has received a large inheritance valued at EUR100 million and decided to give the annual interest on this fortune to poor students in France and Vietnam.

Since 2001, through the “Meeting Vietnam” organisation, the Odon Vallet scholarship fund has given scholarships to thousands of Vietnamese students. In 2010 alone, 2,150 students nationwide received Odon Vallet scholarships totalling VND12 billion.
